Circular Practice

Circular Practice

Located at 23rd Street and Collins Avenue in the Walgreens storefront

Circular Practice frames pedagogy–the methods and practice of teaching– as the core site of research, experimentation, and creation.  Teaching is not a supplement to artistic production; rather teaching artists are presented as art practitioners whose studio work, educational practice, and community engagement exist in constant dialogue. Works in the exhibition reveal how ideas move fluidly between the artist’s studio, the classroom, museums, and galleries, shaping and reshaping one another through collaboration, adaptation, and shared inquiry. Teaching becomes a circular process in which artists learn from students, communities, and materials, returning to their studios with new questions and approaches.

By highlighting this exchange, the exhibition reframes museum education as a generative creative practice and positions teaching artists as essential contributors to the museum’s intellectual and artistic life.

ABOUT THE BASS CREATIVITY CENTER
The Creativity Center at The Bass Museum of Art is a dedicated space for hands-on learning, experimentation, and community connection. Rooted in the museum’s commitment to experiential education, it serves as a hub where artists, educators, and visitors engage in creative practice across ages and backgrounds. Through workshops, open studio time, and collaborative programs, the Creativity Center supports inquiry-driven artmaking that connects contemporary art to everyday life. It is both a classroom and a studio—an active site where ideas are tested, shared, and transformed through making.

This exhibition is curated by Juana Meneses and Keela Porter-Brown.

The project is supported by Walgreens.
