Collection

The Bass Museum of Art was founded in 1964, when John and Johanna Bass donated their art collection to the City of Miami Beach, establishing the museum in the former library building it currently occupies.

In 2008, The Bass Collection refined its curatorial vision, positioning international contemporary art as its primary focus and principal area of future growth. Consisting of approximately 300 contemporary works of art in all media, it includes painting, sculpture, installation, video and sound art with particular emphasis on public art, conceptual art, installation, text-based work and video and media art. Today, the founding collection of historical works of art is oftentimes present in curated exhibitions alongside contemporary art, adding depth and context to the visitor experience. The Bass is proud to share its ever-growing collection with viewers online.
