Teen Art Class

Ages 13-18 | Saturday | 1:30 - 4:00 PM

Studio art intensive workshops for building a strong portfolio of work. Each month is devoted to a particular medium, providing students the ability to select and explore material. Professional art teachers will advise and guide students to develop their skillset, hone their studio art practice, and experiment with a multitude of materials. Students will learn how to articulate their vision and speak about artwork through one-on-one and group critique, a necessary tool for artist development. Students are encouraged to attend all sessions.

Members (Dual/Family & above): $10 per class
Non-members: $15 per class

Saturday, Jan 26
Exploratory Color Theory

Students will explore the many ways that the elements of color influences artwork. Learn about aesthetic interactions of color, and basic fundamentals and advantages of using color in various media.

Understanding Composition

Learn how to strengthen basic drawing abilities and knowledge through practice, exploration and material. In this class, students will investigate the principles of art and design.

Sculpting Fundamentals

Learn how to manipulate clay using sculptural techniques, including carving and molding from simple clay form

Landscape Drawing

Using the Miami landscape as source of inspiration, students will learn fundamental tools such as observational drawing, composition and perspective ‘en plein air’.

In this workshop, students will use ordinary objects and reconstruct them into a 3D work of art.

Mixed Media Painting

Students will discover methods used to create mixed media, within the realm of painting.

Surreal Collage

This class will provide students with the learning tools to create fresh meanings and narratives by arranging imagery according to the student’s personal experiences.

Experimental Painting

Explore various tips and techniques and apply paint to a non-traditional surface. Learn about exploratory methodologies and approaches to painting and hone your skillset to further develop your personal aesthetic.

Open Studio Work Day

Students will have the opportunity to complete unfinished artwork with the guidance of a professional teaching artist.

Polishing Sketchbooks

Sketchbooks are critical and required for the serious art student looking to apply to art schools. In this class, students will ‘clean’ their sketchbook as it is a vital tool to the portfolio reviewer. Please note: this is the final class to use the studio and its materials.

Finalizing & Digitizing Artwork

Students are required to digitize their artwork for portfolio submission. Here, the instructor will teach students how to digitize their artwork for optimal final products. In addition, students will have the opportunity to begin their artist statements.

Saturday, Apr 27
Final Exhibition & Formal presentations

Students will discuss their creative process and exhibit artwork created this semester. Family and friends encouraged to attend.
