ABOUT RENÉE CRUZ:
Bassist Renée Cruz has performed and recorded with Jazz music’s legendary artists, including Dr. Billy Taylor, Harry Whitaker, Jimmy Heath, Hank Jones, Frank Wess, Joe Wilder, Gerald Wilson, Ernestine Anderson, and Benny Golson.

She’s studied with bass legends Sir Ron Carter, Buster Williams, Homer Mensch, and Reggie Workman.

An alumni of Miami’s New World School of the Arts High School, under the direction of Jim Gasior, she performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington.

Ms. Cruz earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from New School University for Jazz & Contemporary Music and her Masters of Music from The Juilliard School.

She was awarded the Sisters in Jazz Collegiate Competition of the International Association of Jazz Educators and the Beacons in Jazz Award for Outstanding Musicianship, and the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead performing composers residency award.

Renée has performed at international festivals around the world in concert halls and jazz clubs, including The Kennedy Center, The Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, The Apollo Theater, The Jazz Standard, Nublu, Birdland with Joe Lovano, International Jazz Festival of Costa Rica, Vitoría Spain Jazz Fest, Aiken Jazz Festival, International Jazz Festival of Nicaragua, White Plains Jazz Festival and Cancún Music Festival. Learn more at reneecruz.com.
