AVAILABLE INTERNSHIPS

The Bass’ intern program is aimed at college juniors, seniors and recent graduates, graduate students and young museum professionals. The program provides an introduction to the inner workings of specific departments and theoretical training in a museum. The Bass encourages applicants from a wide range of disciplines in an effort to realize a well-rounded team for the intern program. Internships at The Bass are unpaid.

Available Internships

Art & Museum Education Internship The Bass Museum of Art currently seeks a limited number of Art Education & Museum Education interns. Participants will gain hands-on experience and play an integral role in developing and assisting in museum education programs..

 

NEXT AVAILABLE POSITION: SUMMER 2024

 

As part of The Bass Museum of Art’s Education team, interns will have the opportunity to work with the museum’s education staff. Upon conclusion, interns will leave the program with an extensive understanding of the inner workings of The Bass’ Education Department.

Ideal candidates possess a strong desire to gain experience planning and implementing arts-based activities and object based learning. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a series of professional development meetings, discussions and site visits to gain an understanding of the functions of various museum departments, and meet a network of peers in the greater Miami-Dade arts community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:

  • Provide staff support in planning and implementing arts-based learning activities including art making, object-based learning and storytelling.
  • Support and develop art activities and gain experience planning and implementing museum education lessons and programs under the guidance of teaching artists and museum staff
  • Contribute assistance and encouragement to children as they participate in activities and respond to the needs of individual learners
  • Reliably enforce important policies pertaining to the safety and supervision of children
  • Help maintain a clean classroom, manage and prepare art materials, and ensure the security of the arts and crafts equipment and supplies

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Reliability and attendance at work are essential functions of this position.
  • Clean record and background – the Museum reserves the right to perform background checks.
  • Experience with youth education programs or art education, a plus.
  • Desire to encourage children to participate in activities, learn new skills, and have fun.
  • Preference will be given to students registered in credit-granting programs. Student applicants should consult their academic advisor for additional information.

 

DURATION AND COMPENSATION

  • Fall & Spring: Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m, some Saturdays, Sundays and after hours required.
  • Summer: Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Fall and Spring internships are unpaid. Summer internships receive a stipend.

Special Events Internship The Bass Museum of Art currently seeks college-level, Special Events interns who want to gain valuable business and management skills as well as experience in the areas of facilities and event management and sales.

NEXT AVAILABLE POSITION: Summer 2024

The Special Events intern will play an integral role in the organization with opportunities to learn about scheduling, event planning & production, and sales & marketing. Events include internal programming and fundraising events as well as assisting clients who rent the museum for private events.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Development and execution of effective promotion strategies & campaigns to engage target markets including but not limited to corporations, bridal, fashion, entertainment, and travel industry
  • Event planning and production working alongside clients, vendors, and internal team, as needed
  • Reservation data analysis and reporting
  • Establish and maintain event industry relationships through research, outreach and contact management
  • Planning and production of public programs (virtual and onsite)

Duration and Compensation

College credit only. Ideal candidate can commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week during the Semester to complete agreed upon project(s) for portfolio use. Other accommodations can be established upon request. The position also offers opportunities to participate in the production of special events that take place in the evening and weekends.
