GLAM FASHION, ART, & PHILANTHROPY AT THE BASS BALL: DISCOTHÈQUE IN MIAMI BEACH

MIAMI BEACH, FL (January 24, 2025) – On Thursday, January 23, 2025, The Bass Museum of Art honored artists Rachel Feinstein and assume vivid astro focus at the museum’s annual black-tie benefit The Bass Ball: Discothèque. Art-lovers, philanthropists, tastemakers, and celebrities enjoyed dining, dancing, and special surprise performances in a 70’s disco glam setting at the exclusive gala.

The theme “Discothèque” was inspired by the current exhibitions on view, Rachel Feinstein: The Miami Years and assume vivid astro focus: XI. Each exhibition explores themes of identity and body politics, with one referencing the glamorous decadence of the late 1970s and early 80s and the other incorporating artists, performers, and musicians from that era into its broader program.

As an artist-centered organization dedicated to presenting contemporary art of excellence, The Bass Ball honored artists for their recent contributions and special commissions to the museum. Rachel Feinstein’s new works Panorama of Miami (2024) and Old Cutler (2024) were acknowledged, as well as the immersive restaging of assume vivid astro focus’s XI (2004/24), a vibrant mélange of sound, video, and color gifted to the museum last year by longtime Miami-based art collectors Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz.

Surrounded by lavish décor designed by Alejandro Muguerza, guests enjoyed special performances throughout the evening. Comedian, singer, and legacy drag performer Tiffany Fantasia entertained guests in a performance curated by the assume vivid astro focus artist collective. Following fine dining by Le Basque, wine pairings by Dry Farm Wines, and cocktails courtesy of Maestro Dobel Tequila, guests were delighted with a surprise concert performance by Canadian disco band Lime, best known for the 1981 US Dance hit “Your Love.” The exclusive concert performance was presented with support from Lorena and Evelio Gomez.

Celebrities in attendance included Dan Buettner, the bestselling author, explorer and host of Netflix’s hit show “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones.”

All proceeds from The Bass Ball benefit The Bass’ Creativity in the Community education and outreach programs, as well as museum exhibitions.

Widely known as Miami’s most fashion-forward black-tie event, The Bass Ball invites its guests to artfully interpret the theme through their attire, thus becoming a part of the extravaganza.
