come together: frances trombly and leyden rodriguez-casanova

The Bass Museum of Art will exhibit the work of Frances Trombly and Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova, two prolific Miami artists who also happen to be married. Both artists will create intriguing installations inspired by everyday objects. Trombly’s sculptures of mops, blank canvases and painters’ drop cloths fool the eye. These things appear to be mass-produced, but in fact they have been meticulously hand-stitched, crocheted and embroidered. Rodriguez-Casanova works with home-decorating items in an attempt to deconstruct the domestic environment. His installation will feature a section of ceiling, vertical blinds and a chandelier, skewed at an angle. In a third installation the couple will combine their efforts merging the hand-made and mass produced, using contrasting elements that are either organically soft or rigidly structured.
